SUMMER: SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Seville, the capital of Spain’s Andalusia region, is the artistic, cultural, and financial capital of southern Spain. A city alive with music, dance, and energy, Seville is bursting with passion and electricity at every turn. A wonderful mix of trademark Spanish vitality and a mellow Mediterranean vibe, Seville is sure to have a spice perfect for every traveler’s taste.

Spanish summer sessions are one-month long each, and students can combine one, two or three sessions.

Courses

Below are the course levels and descriptions for Athena’s Summer Seville language-only program.  Please check with your home university to assess course equivalency for the language courses offered, as course equivalencies vary among institutions.

A1: Elementary Spanish (60 contact hours, 3 weeks)

Addresses the same course content and objectives as Spanish 100, but intended for students who have had some study in Spanish. (3 hrs.)

A2: Second Semester Spanish (60 contact hours, 3 weeks)

Continuation and completion of the program described for A1 (4 hrs)

B1: Intermediate Spanish (60 contact hours, 3 weeks)

Designed to provide the student with an intensive review of basic grammatical structures and to improve on the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and comprehending Spanish, with particular emphasis on building vocabulary and reading skills. (3 hrs)

B2: Intermediate Spanish II (60 contact hours, 3 weeks)

A continuation of B1; students continue with review of grammar, and building on the four skills, with particular emphasis on more complex grammatical structures and attention to building writing skills. (3 hrs)

C1: Advanced Spanish Grammar and Conversation (60 contact hours, 3 weeks)

Provides student with a greater proficiency in the language; a thorough grammar review stressing difficult points of syntax;  written composition, and the practical use of the spoken language in a wide variety of contexts.

Business Spanish (4 weeks, 50 contact hours)

Minimum B1 Level language placement
Content courses, 4 weeks.

Spanish Literature and Cinema (4 weeks, 50 contact hours)

Minimum A2 Level language placement
Contemporary Spanish Culture (2-3 hrs.):  Students study contemporary cultural topics (music, cinema, theatre) in Spain during a study abroad program Spanish Literature and Cinema 4 weeks

Arabic Heritage (4 weeks, 50 contact hours)

Minimum A2 Level language placement
Contemporary Spanish Culture (2-3 hrs.): Students study contemporary cultural topics (music, cinema, theatre) in Spain during a study abroad program Spanish Literature and Cinema 4 weeks

Medical Spanish (4 weeks, 50 contact hours)

Upon request
Minimum A1 Level language placement
Content courses, 4 weeks.ns with Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin, Rikkyo University in Japan and the University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain.

He has exhibited his paintings worldwide, read and lectured internationally with the Fulbright Commission, and held classes and workshops in Poetry in venues as diverse as Japan, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Egypt and Mexico.
